Thank you so much for taking a look at StylesMovieNews. I know a lot of you joined me on this journey quite late in the day and missed some of the key information, so this is a big fat recap for you all! Please credit if this information is re-posted elsewhere - it took a lot of time and effort to collate.

RECAP

  • Dunkirk is due for release in the USA & UK on the 21st July 2017 and will be written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Other worldwide release dates vary between the 19th and 27th of July.

  • Harry is expected to star alongside Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Aneurin Barnard, Jack Lowden and Fionn Whitehead. Harry, Aneurin, Jack and Fionn are expected to play soldiers in lead roles.

  • Filming is expected to take place in France, Canada and the UK, beginning on either the 14th or the 23rd May.

  • Christopher Nolan visited Dunkirk with his brother in December 2015. Whilst there, he researched and decided on locations for filming.

  • Prior to filming, Director Christopher Nolan met with British Dunkirk veterans, including two gentlemen called George and Edward, to interview them about their experiences. The men were filmed as they discussed everything they remembered from their time and involvement in Dunkirk. Nolan and his researcher informed them that they want Dunkirk to be as honestly and realistically portrayed as possible.

  • Set building in Dunkerque begun in April and smoke screen tests were also carried out in the East Harbour. Among the sets built as of writing include a new 1940's façade for the Dunkerque Kursaal (theatre venue) and a recreation of the East Mole of Dunkirk (pier-like structure). The façades of many of the businesses and houses close to the Kursaal are also being decorated to fit the time period. Businesses including restaurants have been asked to shut at the end of May for filming. Guy Belegaud is in charge of creating the sets for Dunkirk.

  • A casting call for female nurses was posted, with auditions held on the 21st April. Over 100 women arrived for the auditions. The casting crew were very strict on hair colours and lengths as well as the heights of those who auditioned. Some were rejected before even entering the building. Those who auditioned also had to be between the ages of 18 and 60. Those who were photographed and provided their details will be informed by the 15th May if they were successful.

  • Local men were also asked to audition to play the role of soldiers. This was via a pre-registration on a website, rather than the free-for-all audition used for the nurses auditions. Many extras were contacted promptly with confirmation of their roles. As of the 6th May, the casting crew were still looking for more men to play these parts, as well as those who will play doctors.

  • There are expected to be around 1500 extras in Dunkerque in total participating in filming.

  • French destroyer ship the Maillé-Brézé will be used during filming for Dunkirk. The ship left Nantes on the 18th April, stopping over in Saint-Nazaire. It then left Saint-Nazaire for Dunkerque on Wednesday 27th April at 7am local time, and arrived on the evening of the 30th April. The ship will return to Nantes in July.

  • The Maillé-Brézé was provided thanks to a contracted agreement between the Nantes Marine Tradition and Peninsula Film. Peninsula Film is a Paris-based line production company which previously collaborated with Christopher Nolan on “Inception”.

  • According to local rumours, the cast and crew are expected to film in Dorset, UK, aboard another ship. The Sun Newspaper previously reported the cast would sleep on an old Navy ship moored off the South Coast.

  • There was a lot of speculation that Harry would need to cut his hair for the movie. He did just this, posting an image to his instagram of his hand holding the hair he donated to the Little Princess Trust.

  • Ships from the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships, an association dedicated to ships which took part in the 1940 evacuation, have taken part in pre-production filming. Some of the ships will make their way across the channel to take part in the Dunkirk filming on the beaches of Malo les Bains. Endeavour is one of the ships expected to take this journey.

  • Camera tests were in full swing for Dunkirk by late April.

  • There are rumours that filming may take place at the Cardington sheds in Bedfordshire.

  • Danny DeVito appeared to confirm Harry’s involvement, while Nick Jonas stated agents and casting directors had called Harry a good actor. Soon afterwards, Harry's father Des Styles tweeted about Harry's involvement (as if it was confirmed) but deleted the tweet soon afterwards.

  • Dunkirk is expected to share it's release date with Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

  • The production is using a code name to disguise filming arrangements etc. from the general public.

  • Filming is also expected to take place in the Leffrinckoucke and Zuydcoote areas of Dunkerque.

  • Director Joe Wright, known for Atonement, is working on a film called Darkest Hour. It will focus on Winston Churchill during the battles of Dunkirk and will also be released in 2017. Gary Oldman is expected to play Churchill.

  • Tom Hardy and Aneurin Barnard are expected to start filming for Dunkirk as soon as they have completed filming on their other current projects - Taboo and Interlude in Prague.

  • On the 3rd May, Cillian Murphy confirmed he and Tom Hardy will be working together again for Dunkirk, during a Twitter Q&A for his Peaky Blinders TV series.
